When we think about our favorite memories, it's easy to picture the big moments.
Birthdays.
Christmas morning.
Family vacations.
Graduation ceremonies.
The days everyone remembers.
But the older I get...
The more I think life is actually built on Tuesdays.
Ordinary Tuesdays.
The ones where nobody takes pictures.
The ones where the laundry still needs folding.
Homework covers the kitchen table.
Dinner is a little later than planned.
Someone forgot to switch the clothes to the dryer.
Someone else can't find their shoes.
Again.
It's the day where coffee gets reheated three times before I finally finish it.
Where the dogs bark at absolutely nothing.
Where one of the kids has a story that somehow takes twenty minutes to tell.
Where we all end up laughing over something that wouldn't make sense to anyone outside these walls.
Those days don't feel remarkable while they're happening.
In fact, they're often the days we're most tempted to rush through.
We're always looking ahead to the next big thing.
The weekend.
The holiday.
The vacation.
The milestone.
But what if these ordinary Tuesdays are the real treasure?
Because one day...
The homework won't be on the table anymore.
The little shoes won't be scattered by the door.
The house won't echo with someone asking,
"Can I tell you something?"
The cousins won't pile into blanket forts.
The dogs won't interrupt every conversation.
And I have a feeling I'd give just about anything to live one more ordinary Tuesday exactly as it is today.
That's why I've started paying attention.
To the little moments.
The ones that don't make headlines.
The ones that quietly become the story of our lives.
A shared laugh while making dinner.
A hug in the hallway.
A game played before bedtime.
Coffee on the porch.
The sound of kids playing outside.
Life isn't mostly made of extraordinary moments.
It's made of ordinary ones that become extraordinary because of who we shared them with.
So today...
Don't wait for a special occasion to slow down.
Tuesday is enough.
Because sometimes the most ordinary day turns into the memory you treasure most.
Until next time, there's always another chair by the fire waiting for you.
