Why There's Always Room for One More

Why There's Always Room for One More

If you've ever been to our house, you've probably noticed something.

We don't really do "just enough."

If we're making dinner, there's probably enough for an army.

If we're putting out blankets for movie night, they somehow multiply until no one remembers where they all came from.

If we're playing a game...

Someone inevitably asks,

"Can they join too?"

And the answer is almost always...

"Of course."

Pull up another chair.

I've always believed that home isn't measured by square footage.

It's measured by how many people feel welcome inside it.

Our house is full.

Very full.

Seven kids.

Two giant English Mastiffs.

Four adults.

A constant soundtrack of laughter, barking, questions, dishes, and someone looking for a missing shoe.

By most standards...

We're probably out of room.

But somehow...

There's always room for one more.

One more cousin.

One more friend.

One more cup of coffee.

One more story around the table.

One more hug before bed.

One more person who needs to know they're welcome.

I've realized over the years that making room isn't really about furniture.

It's about your heart.

Sometimes making room means listening when you're tired.

Sometimes it means scooting over on the couch.

Sometimes it means making one extra grilled cheese because someone stayed longer than expected.

Sometimes it simply means saying,

"I'm glad you're here."

Fern & Flicker has always been built around that idea.

Not that everyone is the same.

Quite the opposite.

We're wonderfully different.

Different hobbies.

Different personalities.

Different stories.

Different journeys.

But everyone deserves a place where they don't have to earn belonging.

Around here, you don't have to prove you're enough before you're welcomed.

You already are.

So whether you're gathering around a game table, sharing coffee on the porch, or simply stopping by The Cottage for a few quiet moments...

Know this.

There's always room.

Always another chair.

Always another story waiting to be shared.

And we're really glad you stopped by.

Until next time, there's always another chair by the fire waiting for you.
